Athens is located in the center of northern Alabama in historic Limestone County where the Tennessee River runs along the southern end of the county and the Elk River defines the southwest boundary. Home to Athens State University and Browns Ferry nuclear plant. There are many historical sites, activities, restaurants and hotels or motels to choose from.
